Preparation Resources

Preparing for the 2026 Picture Book Reading Contest is a valuable learning experience that helps students build confidence, improve reading fluency, and deepen their understanding of Chinese language and culture.

Students are encouraged to select age-appropriate Chinese picture books, practice reading aloud regularly, and focus on clear pronunciation, natural pacing, and expressive storytelling. Parents and teachers can support students by listening to their practice readings and helping them become familiar with the structure and content of the selected books.

Level Learning Free Access
Level Learning offers a limited number of students free access to selected learning resources to support their preparation for the contest.
These resources are designed to help students improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and oral expression through guided practice and structured materials.

Tips for Reading Aloud
Reading aloud is more than saying the words correctly. It is about sharing a story in an interesting and enjoyable way. Here are some simple tips to help you prepare:
  • Understand the Story
Read the book carefully and understand the characters and what happens in the story.
  • Practice Pronunciation
Practice saying difficult words until you feel comfortable.
  • Read with Expression
Use your voice to show feelings such as happiness, surprise, or excitement.
  • Read at a Good Speed
Do not read too fast or too slowly. Keep a steady and natural pace.
  • Look at the Camera
Imagine you are reading to an audience. Smile, use facial expressions, and look at the camera when you can.
  • Practice Often
The more you practice, the more confident you will feel.

Tips for Recording Your Video
  • Choose a Quiet Place
Record in a place with little background noise.
  • Use Good Lighting
Make sure your face and the book can be seen clearly.
  • Set the Camera at Eye Level
This helps you look natural and comfortable on screen.
  • Check Your Sound
Make sure your voice is clear and easy to hear.
  • Show the Book Cover
Hold up the book cover clearly at the beginning 1.5 minutes of your video.
  • Dress Neatly
    Wear clean and appropriate clothing.

Practice Ideas
  • Read the story aloud to your family or friends.
  • Record practice videos and watch them to improve.
  • Enjoy the story and have fun sharing it!
